Writing a Business Plan
The purpose of a business plan is to define the short and long term objectives of a company. A good business plan will consist of a marketing plan, an operations plan, and a financial plan. The business plan should connect the strategic goals of the organization with the managerial tasks needed to accomplish them.
The first thing you need to do to write a good business plan is to think about the audience. Is it for internal use, to obtain financing, or for something else? Ask yourself some questions to get started. What is your main business? What are your long term goals? Who are your primary customers? What are your core capabilities? Your business plan will grow out of your answers to these questions.
A business plan can take many different forms or structures. Despite what you may read, there is no right or wrong way to break it down. Separate the plan into sections that make sense for your business, your industry, and your target audience. You should include market research, information about competitors, current financial information, and an executive summary or overview.
When writing a business plan, write in third person, and use clear, concise language. Big words or industry jargon will only confuse, not impress readers.
